population 223891(2003), was settled in 1749 and incorporated in
1829. It is the seat of Guilford County, in north central, NC.

Greensboro Historical Museum
boasts 12 galleries and two restored houses showcasing the times that
history was influenced by Greensboro. In1960, Greensboro Sit-Ins
vitalized a nation. Dolley Madison, one of our nation’s most beloved
first ladies, was from the New Garden area of Greensboro. A style setter
(her turbans were copied across Europe), and an accomplished hostess,
Dolley Madison
is most frequently remembered for her courage.
While the British burned Washington during the War of 1812, Dolley
personally saved many state papers as well as a renowned portrait of
George Washington, during the War of 1812.
Another native who is
remembered at the Greensboro Historical Museum, is O. Henry, who invented
a new genre of the American short story. Model T travel, world-class
collection of Civil War firearms, and an exciting exhibit of furniture
created by Piedmont craftsmen, are only some of the wonders there.

Guilford Courthouse, the
site of the Revolutionary War battle of Guilford Courthouse is a national
military park. The
Natural Science Center of Greensboro
offers a zoo, a Gem and Mineral Gallery, a dinosaur exhibit, and a
planetarium.

Greensboro, include the Univ. of North Carolina at Greensboro, Greensboro
College, Guilford College, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State
Univ., Brookstone College, Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital School Of Radiation
